"The Turtle" is a short story that was written by American author John Steinbeck as part of chapter 3 of the bigger novel, "The Grapes of Wrath". This story narrates the adventure that a small land turtle has to face in its attempt to cross a highway and get to the other side. As its journey begins, the turtle finds many things that make it proud, but nothing more so than her heavy shell, its heavy armor that protects it from danger and safeguards it. As the animal is crossing the highway, never does its shell come more in handy than when a truck almost hits it and the shell, where the turtle has hidden, protects it. Finally, after a while, the turtle, now on the other side, puts its limbs out of the protective shell and through the movement of them its foot comes into contact with, and holds on to, a piece of quartz and little by little, its shell begins to turn over and the turtle is able to move down the other embankment.
