this is an absolute value problem.
Subst. -5 for x and 5 for y: |-(-5) - 2(5)| = |5 - 10| = |-5| = 5 (answer)

|-x - 2y|
x = -5
y = 5
|-(-5) - 2(5)|
| 5 - 10|
|-5|
Since this is a absolute value, it can only be positive
|-5| = 5
5 is your answer
hope this helps
