EXPERTS/GENIUS/ACE ( and people that wanna actually help and give the correct answer)

Soon the men began to gather, surveying their own children, speaking of planting and rain, tractors and taxes. They stood together, away from the pile of stones in the corner, and their jokes were quiet and they smiled rather than laughed.

Which portion of the passage creates suspense and tension?

A. The men survey their own children.

B. The men speak of planting and rain.

C. The men stand together.

The answer should be D) because A) is not tension, B) is really not tension, and C) is not suspense either so I would go with D) since we don't know what they're talking about and why so quiet.
