The Cardinalis cardinalis, commonly called the northern cardinal, is a singing bird of medium size, it presents sexual dimorphism, meanwhile, the female is of a pale color, and the male is vivid red. It can be found from southern Canada to Belice and part of Colombia and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is varied ranging from woodlands to shrubs. Its diet consists of seeds and fruits, sometimes also consumes small insects such as beetles and grasshoppers, which makes it mostly a primary consumer.
