The polis is a city in ancient Greece, and it means exactly that. They were mostly city states ruled by oligarchs or monarchs. Oligarchs are rich people while monarchs are kings and emperors. Aristocracy is a class of people who are considered to be nobility. Tyrants were rulers who had absolute power and would usually rise to power in difficult times when democracy couldn't solve things. Democracy is when people vote and choose what happens.
I hope this is good.
