Forming the equation,

→ x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) + (x + 6) = 48

→ 4x + 12 = 48

Now the value of x will be,

→ 4x + 12 = 48

→ 4x = 48 - 12

→ x = 36/4

→ [ x = 9 ]

Then smaller number is,

→ x = 9

Hence, the number is 9.

Answer:

  • The smallest number is 9

Explanation:

Let the smallest integer be x.

Then the other numbers are:

  • x + 2, x + 4, x + 6

Sum of the four is 48:

  • x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 = 48
  • 4x + 12 = 48
  • 4x = 36
  • x = 9
