What is the slope of the straight line through points (-2,4) and (5,-1) ?

The slope can be calculated by subtracting the y values (the rises) and dividing the difference by the difference between the x values (the runs) to get rise over run. -1-4= -5 (differences in y's) & 5-(-2)= 7 (the differences in the x's). now divide the difference in the y' by the difference in the x's to get m= -5/7.
