\begin{gathered} (6x^2-5x^2+7x)+(7x^2-8) \\ =6x^2-5x^2+7x+7x^2-8 \\ =6x^2-5x^2+7x^2+7x-8 \\ =8x^2+7x-8 \end{gathered}

In solving this , we can only add the coefficient of the same variable. ALll of the coefficient of x2 is added, since there is ony one coefficient for the variable x and for the constant , 7x and -8 are simply retained into the expression. The answer is :

8x^2+7x-8
