(1)/(2)(6-y)=y

let's find y

(6)/(2)-(y)/(2)=y
\text{add }(1)/(2)y\text{ to both sides}
(6)/(2)-(1)/(2)y+(1)/(2)y=y+(1)/(2)y

Therefore,

\begin{gathered} 3=(2y+y)/(2) \\ 3=(3)/(2)y \end{gathered}

cross multiply

\begin{gathered} 3*2=3y \\ 6=3y \\ y=(6)/(3) \\ y=2 \end{gathered}
