This is what you do.

x - 2y = -8
4x - 3y = -17
Add 2y to both sides on the first equation.
x = 2y - 8
4x - 3y = -17
Now substitute the x value.
4(2y - 8) -3y = -17
8y - 32 - 3y = -17
Combine like terms
5y - 32 = 17
Add 32 to both sides.
5y = 15
Divide.
y = 3
Now find x by plugging in 3 into 1 equation.
x - 2(3) = -8
x -6 = -8
Add 6 to both sides.
x = -2
So you solution is (-2, 3).
I hope this helps love! :)
