The articles of confederation are well known for their many weaknesses. One of the weaknesses that affected the merchant class the most, however, is that - in an attempt to establish a sense of independence - each "state" had its own currency, and thus, the merchant class had no way to ensure fair earnings for all.

Answer:

Article of confederation failed to imply a uniform currency across the United States territory. With each state having their currency created problems for merchants. It restricted the mobility of trade across states territory. Further the Federal government under the article of Confederation, cannot stablize trade with the states.
