Hawthorne posed that human nature is to be capable of both good and bad attributes. In other words, the same individual whose human flaw is performing acts of evil is also capable of performing acts of good. In order to cope with his or her human flaw, Hawthorne posed that the individual should believe in and perform acts of repentance, or the act of soliciting forgiveness for wrong-doing, to balance out the good and evil.
