First, you have to isolate 2x in the first step to solving for x, so you would add 2 to both sides. This would look like this: u+2=2x.
Then, divide both sides by 2 to fully isolate x. This would give you an answer of u+2/2 = x.

u = 2x - 2

We simply need to isolate x :) That just means that we need to get x onto it's own side of the equal sign.

So, add 2 to both sides.

2 + u = 2x

Then, divide both sides by 2.

2 + u ÷ 2 = 2x ÷ 2

Simplify.

1 + u/2 = x

So, x = 1/2u + 1

~Hope I helped!~ :)
