We want to solve the inequality
3x - 7 ≤ 5x + 9
Subtract 3xfrm each side.
-7 ≤ 2x + 9
Subtract 9 from each side.
-16 ≤ 2x
Divide each side by 2.
-8 ≤ x
Multiply each side by -1.
8 ≥ x
Therefore -∞ < x ≤ 8 or x = (-∞, 8]
Answer: x = (-∞, 8]
