An item has a listed price of $40. If the sales tax rate is 4%, how much is the sales tax (in dollars)?

Make 4% a decimal, which is .04 and multiply that by the price, 40.00$ to get the tax, which is 1.60$, add this to 40.00$ to equal 41.60$

40 x 0.04 = $1.60
sales tax is $1.60
