The length of a rectangle is 5 yd longer than its width. if the perimeter of the rectangle is 46 yd , find its area.

lets say a is one side, and b is the other:

46 = 2a + 2b
46-10=36 (one length of the rectangle is 5 yd, and you double the length to get the perimeter, so you double the 5yd)
36÷4=9 (4 being the sides of the rectangle)
so the width is 9yd, and the length is 9+5=14yd. ----> 9+9+14+14=46

9x14= 126



Area = 126yd²
