You consult for various large networking companies. one of your clients reports that laptop users cannot connect to the network in the evening. they know the network is set up for dhcp addressing; they have, however, configured a static address for the laptop. the address is within the valid range of ip addresses defined for the network. determine the cause of this problem.

DHCP addressing automatically assigns addresses to connected clients. If someone assigned there own ip address to their laptop and attempts to connect the network, the address has most likely been assigned to another system and is causing a conflict.

Tell the client that it not his job to assign himself addresses. Even if they insist on using 192.168.0.1 because it easy to remember. (Yes I dealt with this at one point)
