Mary and Roberto bought identical backpacks at different stores. Mary's backpack originally cost $65 and was on sale for 25%. Roberto's backpack originally cost $75 and was on sale for 30% off of the original price. Which backpack was the better buy? Explain.

Mary’s cost $16.25 because 65 divided by 4 = 16.25
Roberto's cost $22.50 because 75 divided by 20 = 3.75 and 3.75 multiplied by 6 = 22.50
Therefore Mary’s was the better buy

Mary's backpack:
65 - 25% = 48.75

Roberto's backpack:
75 - 30% = 52.50

Mary's backpack was the best buy.
