A special 8 sided die is rolled 20 times with these outcomes: 2, 4, 7, 3, 1, 5, 4, 6, 3, 8, 6, 2, 5, 2, 6, 1, 7, 4, 5, 6, ....... What is the experimental probability of rolling a 2 or a 4? Is this number greater than or less than the theoretical probability of rolling a 2 or a 4? Explain

One fourth because "a 2 or a 4" means rolling either. So, you have 2 numbers out of 8.

Answer:

Yes, the experimental probability of rolling a 2 or a 4 is greater than theoretical probability of rolling a 2 or a 4.

Explanation:

We are given the outcomes of an experiment as:

2, 4, 7, 3, 1, 5, 4, 6, 3, 8, 6, 2, 5, 2, 6, 1, 7, 4, 5, 6.

Total number of outcomes are: 20

Number of times 2 or 4 comes up is: 6

Hence, the experiment probability of rolling a 2 or a 4 is:

6/20=3/10

Also, the theoretical probability of rolling a 2 or a 4 is:

2/8=1/4

( Since there are total 8 outcomes possible on rolling a cube and there are two outcomes which are 2 or 4)

Also, we know that:

1/4 < 3/10

This means that the experimental probability is greater than the theoretical probability.
