A^2+B^2=c^2 for a right triangle
In this case x is a, b is 8 and c is 14 plug in
X^2= 14^2-8^2
X^2=132
X=11.48
X=11.5

ANSWER

x = 11.5
Step-by-step explanation

Triangle ABC is a right angle triangle.

We can apply the Pythagorean Theorem to get,

{x}^(2) + {8}^(2) = {14}^(2)

We now solve for x to get,

{x}^(2) = {14}^(2) - {8}^(2)
The right hand side is difference of two squares, this factors to give us,

{x}^(2) = (14 - 8)(14 + 8)

{x}^(2) = 6 * 22

{x}^(2) = 132

We take the positive square root of both sides to obtain,

x = √(132)

x = 11.48

x = 11.5
