The epsilon subunit of DNA polymerase iii of E.coli which contains exonuclease activity functions in the proofreading process by removing a mismatched nucleotide. Nucleotides are complex that is consisting of a nucleoside that is connected to a phosphate group which forms the basic structural unit of nucleic acids which are known to be the DNA and RNA.
