It should be that they both have the same area.

Explanation:

since it's HALF the paper, the area should be the same. If you said the width of the paper was 8 inches and the length was 10, then the area would be 80 inches squared. Cut it in half for Calvin's paper and the area would be 40 inches squared, the same with Matthew's.
