You and your friends want to rent a limo on prom night. The limo costs $75 per hour plus a $50 booking fee. You have $350 to spend. How many hours can you have the limo?

Total limo rental cost = $350 = ($50 booking fee) + ($75 / hour) x

... where x is the # of hours for which you can rent the limo.

350 = 50 + 75x so 300 = 75x, and x = 4 hours (answer)

First, you would need to create an equation for this problem. Let x represent the number of hours.
$75x + $50 = $350

Next, you would combine like terms.
$75x = $300

Now, all you would have to do is isolate the x. To do this, you would divide both sides of the equal sign by $75.
x = 4

You can rent the limo for 4 hours.

I hope this helps!
