I predict there are 700!

Here's my thought process.

Divide 1,200 by 60. Multiply the quotient by 35.

You could also do 35/60 times 1,200.

Answer:

696 trees

Explanation:

If you pick 60 random trees and find that 35 of the 60 trees are pine trees we can determine the amount of pine trees per tree looked at.

The number of pine trees per random trees = 35/60 = 0.58 pine trees per random trees which is a possibility of 58%

If 1200 trees were looked at the possibility of pine trees can be determined as:

= 1200 × 0.58 = 696 pine trees

So the possibility of 58% of the 1200 trees are pine trees is 696 pine trees
