The rebels in the Philippines fought against the US after Spain lost the Spanish-American War because the Philipinos wanted indepedence. They first thought that the US would be willing to give them independence, but when they heard the US would make them a colony (or procterate, forgot), they were angry and started fighting for what they wanted
