One large difference is that people in the US have the ability to take "gap years" as a way of refreshing their minds and bodies without feeling like they are unable to get back into a school. In addition, Japanese students do not question the authority of teachers, while teachers in the US solicit feedback for better ways to provide instruction for their students.
