Thigh-high anti embolism elastic stockings have shown to prevent deep vein thrombosis by 4%. The nurse would do well to inform her client that thigh-high compression stockings have been known to cause a tourniquet effect, causing localized restrictions when rolling down. The knee-high stockings are a preferred choice to avoid this problem.
