check the picture below.
a "solution" or zero or root, is pretty much just an x-intercept, namely, what is the value of "x" when the graph touches the x-axis. Keeping in mind that y = 0 at that moment.

First you must get y by itself and then set it up in slope intercept form: y=mx+b where m is the slope, b is the y intercept, and y is what it equals too
