Why are habitats limited resources? how might their destruction affect the long-term survival of species?

Habitats like forests are collected of there wood or animals science there's a limited amount of trees you can take in the world these are limited resources. if we were to chop down all the trees in the world there would be a lot less oxygen there would also be very little life on earth than there is today because of trees being used as shelters, cover and a source of water.
