4n-5 = 3n+2 thats taking the word problem and writing it out
Now solve

4n-5=3n+2
n = 7

n = unknown number

5 less than 4 times a number = 4n-5

2 more than 3 times a number = 3n+2

so you have 4n-5 = 3n +2

add 5 to both sides:

4n=3n+7

subtract 3n from both sides:

n = 7
