2x + 4 ( -6x + 12) = -84 Distribute 4(-6x) and 4(12)

2x - 24x + 48 = -84 2x-24x = -22x

-22x + 48 = -84 Subtract 48 to both sides

-22x = -132 then divide -22x to both sides

-132 ÷ -22

=6

2x + 4(-6x + 12) = -84

2x - 24x + 48 = -84

-22x + 48 = -84

-22x = -84 - 48

-22x = -132

x = -132/-22

x = 6

hope this helps, God bless!
