The correct answer to this question would be alternative B)"They traveled on foot while hauling their belongings."

The Mormon Trail is a route that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints traveled from 1846 to 1868. It's part of the US National Trails System, and it's known as the Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail.

Their goal was to establish a new home for the church in the Great Basin. They ended up in Salt Lake Valley, that later became Utah.
