We know that Jules Verne is the author of Journey to the Center of the Earth. This book is a classic that has spawned many adventure stories, television shows and at least two movies. In order to understand the book a little bit better, it helps if we know a little something about the author. Write down a couple of questions that you think might be helpful or interesting to know about him. Once you have generated those questions, it is time to do a little detective work. Using the internet (remember focus on sites that seem reputable) or your local library and helpful librarian, try to find answers to the questions you came up with. Write out your answers to the questions in a 100 word response in your journal.

Answer:

Hi! In order to know a little bit more about Jules Verne, author of Journey to the Center of the Earth, and, at some point, to get to know his work better, I would ask the following questons:

  1. Where is Jules Verne from?
  2. Which is his date of birth?
  3. How was he raised or how was his family?
  4. What did he study to become a writer?
  5. How did he die and when?

Step-by-step explanation:

Jules Verne was born on February 8th, 1828, in Nantes, France. His parents were Pierre Verne -an attorney from Provins-, and Sophie Allote de la Fuÿe -a Nantes woman from a local family of navigators and shipowners-. He also had three younger sisters named Anna, Mathilde, and Marie.

When he was 19, he was sent to Paris by his parents to study in the Law School, and while there he started to feel interested in theatre and playwriting. Also in Paris, he made friends with Alexandre Dumas' son and they introduced him to another man who allowed him to write in a journal, that is how he started his writing job.

He died on March 24th, while ill with Diabetes, at his home in Amiens. His son, Michel Verne, oversaw the publication of the novels Invasion of the Sea and The Lighthouse at the End of the World after Jules's death.
