Augustine of Canterbury was tasked with bringing Christianity to the Anglo-Saxons. He and approximately 40 others, some who were monks, arrived in Kent in 597 and began their teachings from the church of St, Martin. Historical accounts claim that there were large numbers of converts within a single year in Kent.
