What affect does "h" have on the parent function y = 1/x ?

h < 0 moves the graph to the left, h > 0 moves the graph to the right.

Vertical stretch by a factor of |h|

h > 0 moves the graph up, h < 0 moves the graph down.

h > 0 reflects the graph across the y-axis.

If h moves the graph left or right,
y= (1)/(x+h) (moves left)

y= (1)/(x-h) (moves right)

If a vertical stretch by a factor of |h|, then
y = (h)/(x)

If h moves the graph up or down,
y= (1)/(x) +h (moves up)

y= (1)/(x) -h (moves down)

y= (1)/(-hx) and h = 1
