answer: poor regulation of the brain's locus ceruleus may lead to panic attacks.

Locus ceruleus is a nucleus in the pons involved with physiological responses to stress and panic. When there is stress he responds by increasing norepinephrine (NE) secretion, which is a critical regulator of numerous activities from stress response. Panic attacks result from alterations to NE.
