Because energy is required for several things in the whole digestive system, including secreting enzymes for chemical digestion of food, and also controlling the peristalsis of oesophagus, means the movement, and the physical digestion of food such as chewing or the churning in stomach

Through the process of cellular respiration, the energy in food is converted into energy that can be used by the body's cells. The mitochondrion is the main organ in the cell that uses energy. The chloroplast also uses energy, but it comes from the sun.
