In 1966, the Supreme Court ruled Miranda vs. Arizona that law enforcement were to make those who are arrested aware of their rights and implemented what we now know as the "Miranda Rights".

Here is your answer:
In this specific case it created Miranda rights which allows a person to have a right to have a lawyer if not able to afford one. (Also right to remain silent etc...)
