Japan's success in the Sino-Japanese war, their rapid industrialization that had really begun during the Meiji Restoration, and their dominance over Korea fueled a self-belief in the superiority of the Japanese race. This attitude has been said to have contributed to Japanese imperialism, as the population felt that as a superior people, Japan was destined to control the region, if not more.
