1) 2(x - 5) = 6x - (x - 8)

On the left side of the equal sign, multiply everything in the parenthesis by 2.
On the right side of the equal sign, multiply everything in the parenthesis by -1.

2x - 10 = 6x - x + 8

Combine like terms.

2x - 10 = 5x + 8

Add 10 to both sides.

2x = 5x + 18

Subtract 5x from both sides.

-3x = 18

Divide -3 on both sides.

x = -6

2) 8x - 2y = 4z

Subtract 8x from both sides.

-2y = 4z - 8x

Divide -2 on both sides.

y = 4z - 8x / -2

Hope this helps!
