Even though wiglaf knew really well that Beowulf is a very capabale man, that time is really dire and most of the crew were too scared to do anything. So he make the men remember about what their leader had given to them and encourage them to help him in that dire time.

Wiglaf acted as a honorable right-hand man for Beowulf in this passage. He knew really well when his leader need his assistance and tried as best as he could to provide it. Later on, Wiglaf is appointed as the Heir by Beowulf.
