Answer: They are both correct, A sum is anything added together, so 31 + 47 is a sum.

They are both correct.

A product is anything multiplied together, and what you multiply to get that product is a factor of the product. with 2 x (31 + 47), you're multiplying two factors, 2 and (31 + 47), to get the product 2 x (31 + 47).

A sum is anything added together, so 31 + 47 is a sum.
