First we add 10 to both sides
next we add 3a + 17 + 10 so it can be 3a + 27
next we subtract 3a from both sides
next we subtract 6a - 3a and we get 3a
then we divide both sides by 3
and lastly we divide 27/3 to get our answer

Answer: a = 9.
