The Steam boats changed the inland transport by helping the farmers to come down by raft and return after selling their goods by Mississippi river. The northwestern areas became independent because they were able to purchase southern goods. Canals were also helpful for the farmers and were a cheap mode of transportation. Railroads were funded by the government. All these modes made the transportation of goods easier and accelerated the economic growth in nineteenth century.
