Answer is y = -3x -1

Step by step

First find slope using equation
y2 - y1 over x2 - x1
5- -4 over -2 -1
9 over -3 = -9/3 = -3 slope (m)

Now to solve using equation
y - y1 = m (x - x1)
Chose one set of points (1, -4)
and our slope (m) is -3

y - -4 = -3 (x - 1)
Distribute

y + 4 = -3x + 3

Subtract 4 from each side to solve y

y + 4 -4 = -3x + 3 -4

y = -3x -1

Given:

Given two points are (1,-4) and (-2,5)

Equation of line is

(y-y_1)/(y_2-y_1)=(x-x_1)/(x_2-x_1)
\begin{gathered} (y+4)/(5+4)=(x-1)/(-2-1) \\ (y+4)/(9)=(x-1)/(-3) \\ ((y+4))/(3)=(x-1)/(-1) \\ -y-4=3x-3 \\ 3x+y-3+4=0 \\ 3x+y+1=0 \end{gathered}
