Angela and Neil are going to the movies. They each bought a medium popcorn, and Neil also got a small soda. Angela had a coupon for $5 off the total purchase and Neil paid the rest of the cost, which came to $27.90. If a movie ticket costs $10 and a popcorn costs $5.50 each, what was the cost for the soda?

they each bought a medium popcorn for 5.50 each....they each bought a movie ticket at 10 each...1 soda was bought....with a 5 off coupon,,,and it equaled 27.90

2(10) + 2(5.50) + s - 5 = 27.90
20 + 11 + s - 5 = 27.90
26 + s = 27.90
s = 27.90 - 26
s = 1.90 <== cost of soda
