The number of seals is given in what is called "scientific notation", so in order to write the number of seals in standard form, we simply multiply the factor 3.27 times 10^2, noticing that 10^2 = 100 (one hundred)

Therefore the number of seals in the research area is: 3.27 times 100 = 327 seals.
