In Book VIII of Le Morte d'Arthur circumstances frustrate his attempt to heed the warning when snake bites foot, pulls sword and war. Such obstacles in his head are meant to deliver a message, which explains that Arthur is warned in dreams about his death. Death is the most horrible fear for him.
