One number is 3 more than 2 times the other, and their sum is 27. find the numbers. if x represents the smaller number, then the larger number is 3x + 2 2x + 3 2(x + 3)

2x + 3 = 27

Subtract 3 from both sides.

2x = 24

Divide 2 on both sides.

x = 12
