Paul has a tack stuck in his four-wheeler tire. If the tire has a diameter of 36 inches, how far does the tack travel in 62° of rotation?

Given:
Wheel diameter = 36 inches
Rotation = 62°

The radius is diameter/2 = 36/2 = 18 inches
Note that 1 revolution = 360° = 2π radians
Therefore
62° rotation = (62/360)*(2π) = 1.0821 radians.

The distance that the tack travels is
(18 in)*(1.0821 rad) = 19.478 in

Answer: 19.48 inches (approximately 19.5 inches)
